OEDGS has one computer dedicated to electronic family files - Software programs on the OEDGS dedicated computer include Family Treemaker 2005 and Personal Ancestral File. We encourage you to share a ged.com file of your families to place on this computer. Other researchers will have access to these files. The loose files are the most popular resource in the Library, but electronic files will increasingly be used.

CHARLES MAY AND HIS DESCENDANTS

The book "Charles May and His Descendants" by Hortense Woodson, published by the May Family Association in 1956, has been reprinted by OEDGS with the kind permission of Jones Butler, President of the May Family Association, who granted our request on 6 September 2005. This book will be of interest to the many descendants and some of the families included are Adams, Bryan, Dorn, Hart, May, Murphey, Outz, Parkman, and Walton.

The reprint has been enlarged to 8 ½" x 11" and has a soft-bound laminated cover. It contains 221 pages, with a full name index.

OEDGS has had only a limited number printed, so order your copy today. The cost is $35 + $3 p/h.

Tompkins Library Becomes Heritage Corridor Official Stop - The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor extends 240 miles across the state from the mountains of Oconee County to the port city of Charleston. Established by the United States Congress in 1996 as one of a select number of National Heritage Areas, the fourteen counties of the corridor offer a cross-section of the state’s history, culture, and natural landscapes. The designation as a Corridor Stop recognizes the unique role the Tompkins Library plays as a significant place to visit.

George Galphin I, Indian Trading Patriot of Georgia and South Carolina is the title of book by Isabel Vandervelde now available through the OEDGS. Included in the book are details of trade among the Indians and names of employees and customers from Galphin’s business, as well as other Augusta trade houses. Included in the history, which covers the period from 1837 to 1800, is data about Silver Bluff and Ogeechee Old Town in Augusta, as well as a full report on the activities of the two Creek sons, George II and John. Ordering specifics are on the insert.
