Our May meeting is the joint meeting with Old 96 (our program this year) and will be held May 18th at Willington Presbyterian Church in Willington, SC. The program is a live presentation of the Historic Waddell Academy featuring The Reverend Doctor Moses Waddell himself in the person of a very talented businessman/actor, Richard Smith of Columbia. Richard brings us a day in the classroom of the Willington Academy. Willington is a scenic and easy drive about twelve miles northwest of McCormick. In McCormick get on SC-28 NW 6.9 miles and bear left at SC 81. Go 5.7 miles to Willington. July 13th our guest is Jim Clary author of A History of the 15th South Carolina Infantry 1861-1865. The book is filled with letters, memoirs, photos and reports written by the soldiers of whom many were from Edgefield and Abbeville. Company K of the 15th were the men of Edgefield & Abbeville. The book also details the homelife of the women back home while their men were fighting. It will be a booksigning and needs to be advertised since many local families have ancestors in Company K. This will be an opportunity for them to bring family papers and photos that can be used in the next edition. Jim Clary lived in Edgefield from 1944 to 1949 and loved the village. His father was the cotton buyer for Mr. P J Boatwright. I believe this cotton factory became the Hart/Bonded which is now Piedmont Tech.
